Important notes:

  • Poya holidays are observed on the day of each full moon. In general, Hindu and Buddhist festivals are declared according to local astronomical observations, and it is often only possible to forecast the approximate time of their occurrence at short notice. On such days of religious reverence selling alcohol in public is illegal. However, at certain hotels the room bars remain accessible.

Day 01 : Airport – Negombo (Dinner) (approx. 20 minutes drive)

Ayubowan! Once your Sri Lanka Representative meets you personally on arrival, you will be introduced to your chauffeur guide and then begin your journey to uncover the wonders of this island.

Proceed to Negombo. We suggest you take it easy today and relax after your long flight. Check in at the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure.

After breakfast proceed to Kandy via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage & Spice Garden.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (Wheelchair accessible)

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a renowned conservation and rehabilitation center for orphaned and injured elephants. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe these majestic creatures up close as they roam freely in a natural habitat. You can witness them bathing in the river, feeding, and interacting with their caretakers. It’s a truly memorable experience that offers insight into the conservation efforts dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka’s elephant population

  • Pathways: Many areas within the orphanage have paved or compacted pathways, facilitating wheelchair movement.
  • Viewing Areas: Designated spots for observing elephant activities, such as feeding and bathing, are accessible to wheelchair users.

Challenges to Note:

  • Terrain: While many areas are accessible, some sections may have uneven terrain or gentle slopes; assistance may be beneficial in these areas.
  • Crowds: The orphanage can become crowded during peak visiting hours, which may affect navigation for wheelchair users.

Spice Garden (Wheelchair Accessible)

Matale is well-known for its spice gardens, where you can explore the rich diversity of spices that grow abundantly in Sri Lanka’s tropical climate. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about various spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and pepper, among others. Knowledgeable guides will lead you through the gardens, providing fascinating insights into the cultivation, harvesting, and uses of these aromatic treasures. Check in at the hotel.

Temple of the Tooth Relic.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic, or Sri Dalada Maligawa, is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. It houses what is believed to be the left canine tooth of the Lord Buddha, enshrined in a gold casket and kept in the upper floor of the main shrine. Located in the heart of the picturesque city of Kandy, the temple is part of the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Accessible Features:

  • Wheelchair Ramps: There is ramp access at certain entrances, including the main entry point for visitors.
  • Wheelchair-Friendly Pathways: The outer complex and main courtyards are relatively smooth and can be navigated by wheelchair users with assistance.

Challenges to Note:

  • Interior Access: The main relic chamber is located on the upper floor of the temple, which is only accessible via a flight of stairs. Unfortunately, there is no lift or elevator due to the heritage nature of the building
  • Crowd Density: During peak hours, the site can become very crowded, which may make navigation more difficult for wheelchair users.

Royal Botanical Garden

Located approximately 5 km west of Kandy, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya span 147 acres and are renowned for their extensive collection of over 4,000 plant species, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants, and palm trees. Established formally in 1843, the gardens have historical roots dating back to 1371 during the reign of King Wickramabahu III. They serve as a significant center for botanical research and conservation in Sri Lanka

Accessible Features:

  • Pathways: Many of the main pathways are wide and paved, facilitating easy navigation.
  • Golf Buggy Tours: Available for hire, these provide an effortless way to explore the expansive grounds.

Challenges to Note:

  • Terrain: While many areas are accessible, some sections may have uneven terrain or gentle slopes; assistance may be beneficial in these areas.
  • Suspension Bridge: Access to the Spice Garden involves crossing a suspension bridge, which may present challenges for some wheelchair users

Tea Factory

Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is renowned for its tea industry, and Nuwara Eliya is at the heart of this renowned tea-growing region. A visit to a tea factory allows you to learn about the art and science of tea cultivation, processing, and packaging. You’ll also learn about the different types of tea produced in Sri Lanka, including black tea, green tea, white tea, and oolong tea, each with its own unique characteristics and flavors.

Visit Ramboda waterfall from the vehicle. On completion proceed to Nuwara Eliya & Check in to your hotel.

Nestled at an elevation of 1,868 meters (6,128 feet) in Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, Nuwara Eliya is affectionately known as “Little England” due to its cool climate and colonial-era architecture. Established in 1846 by British explorer Samuel Baker, the town became a favored retreat for British civil servants and planters seeking respite from the tropical heat.The town’s landscape is adorned with Tudor-style buildings, well-manicured gardens, and lush tea plantations. Its temperate climate allows for the cultivation of European fruits and vegetables, making it unique in Sri Lanka.

Attractions: Places like Gregory Lake and Victoria Park have relatively flat paths suitable for wheelchairs.

After breakfast, proceed to Galle.

Galle is a historic coastal city located approximately 119 km south of Colombo, serving as the capital of Sri Lanka’s Southern Province. Renowned for its well-preserved colonial architecture, Galle is home to the Old Town of Galle and its Fortifications, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s rich history reflects a blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences, evident in its buildings, churches, and fortifications.

Wrap up the day after checking in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Galle.
